Freestyle swimming imitation freestyle pull stand on the land rotation only

Imitating the freestyle pull while standing on land can help you practice the basic arm motion and rotation involved in freestyle swimming. Here’s a simple exercise you can do:

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Imagine there’s a pool in front of you and you’re facing in the water
  • Start with your one arm extended up and the other down
  • Begin the freestyle arm pull rotation
  • Continue this motion with your arms, alternating between right and left moving up and down. This mimics the freestyle stroke’s continuous arm cycle
  • Focus on rotating your hips as you would while swimming freestyle. When your right arm pulls back, your hips should naturally rotate to the left, and vice versa
  • Maintain a steady and fluid motion as if you’re pulling through the water. Keep your body in line
  • You can practice this motion for a few minutes to build muscle memory and work on the rotational aspect of freestyle swimming

Remember that this exercise is a land-based simulation and doesn’t replicate the resistance and buoyancy of the water, but it can help you get a sense of the arm movement and rotation involved in freestyle swimming.
