The goal for a pre-competitive swimming group focuses on preparing swimmers for competitive swimming. This involves developing fundamental swimming skills, building physical fitness, and fostering a love for the sport.
Teaching swimming in Singapore with world class training and focus on supporting future Direct School Admission (DSA) and National Training Centre (NTC) programs requires a well-rounded approach that combines technical skills, character development, and a keen understanding of the specific requirements for these programs.
1. Skill Development:
Technique:
Emphasize proper technique in all four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly).
Starts and Turns:
Teach correct techniques for starts, turns, and finishes, which are critical for competitive swimming.
Breathing and Timing:
Develop proper breathing patterns and timing for efficiency in the water.
2. Physical Conditioning:
Strength and Endurance:
Build overall strength and cardiovascular endurance through swimming workouts and dryland exercises.
Flexibility:
Improve flexibility to enhance performance and reduce the risk of injuries.
3. Mental Preparation:
Focus and Discipline:
Instill the discipline required for regular practice and improvement.
Goal Setting:
Encourage swimmers to set personal goals and work towards achieving them.
Competition Readiness:
Prepare swimmers mentally for the competitive environment, teaching them how to handle race-day nerves and strategies.
4. Knowledge of the Sport:
Rules and Etiquette:
Educate swimmers on the rules of competitive swimming and proper pool etiquette.
Racing Strategies:
Introduce basic racing strategies and the importance of pacing.
5. Team Spirit and Sportsmanship:
Camaraderie:
Promote teamwork and camaraderie among swimmers.
Sportsmanship:
Emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship, both in victory and defeat.
By focusing on these goals, a pre-competitive swimming group aims to build a solid foundation for young swimmers, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of competitive swimming.
