My name is Ivashyn Siarhei I’m Coach and Ex-athlete for many years, working with athletes at different levels, I have been faced with the same question of how to make an athlete swim fast!

Of course, all coaches or teachers will have methods and ways to achieve goals during training. I’m sharing my view on this topic.

Swimming has a fundamental goal: to swim faster than other swimmers! And here, everything is clear and straightforward. If you finish first and have no DQ, you first and get a medal or a winner’s cup or other.

The main question is How to make a faster athlete than another athlete?

The main components are:

1. Systematic training with annual plan - includes training plan with exercising on land and since to improve technique in swimming use video analysis and race analysis

2. Nutrition

3. Recovery

4. Mental preparation of the athlete Psychologically “resistant to the pressure or stress during training or competition.”

Systematic training

a. At different ages, you need to provide exercises on land and aiming at coordination or mobility of the joints or strength training; it all depends on the age of the athlete and the goals of the coach that he pursues.
b. During training in the pool, athletes solve the main tasks in the development, aerobic and anaerobic zones with personal workout zones.
c. The correct technique helps use the maximum potential of the athlete and minimise damage to the joints and allow you to achieve better results.

Food

Proper nutrition is when an athlete receives all the necessary vitamins and energy for the expended work during training. The daily norm of an athlete will depend on the age and gender of the athlete.

Recovery

Proper rest is essential! Even if we are young and do not feel tired and do not rest the required number of hours a day and do not do therapeutic exercises such as massage. Then the next workout, we will not be able to complete the activity at 100%, which will not allow the athlete to achieve the maximum result.

Psychologically

Even if we are at the top of success or the very bottom, we always want to do better, and this is never an easy path. And it associates the athlete with stress that he will be unable to achieve the desired result!

All components and the balance between them are crucial, but I would like to do well on the method of preparing an athlete “Systematic training.”

Systematic training

Training is a process aimed at improving the highest achievements of an athlete. Well, everything is simple. We train to participate in competitions and win! 😉

So many people ask for an individual lesson to improve their swimming technique. Some train with one coach and go to improve their swimming technique with another coach, which is a big mistake in my opinion! Do not make mistakes and have training with coaches who have experience or at least ex-swimmers.

 

My suggestion for you find an experienced coach who will be able to coach and teach technique during training and then your child will not have to relearn how to swim correctly - this is very important!

Often parents want to save money and go for cheap classes and after 1 year they want to see the result, but there is NONE! Why did I say find a Сoach and not a former swimmer? The Сoach has experience in building training plans and the swimmer has experience in how to swim! A swimmer can show you how to swim and a coach can teach you how to swim !

A coach is a person who has goals and objectives for the development of a group of people or individual athletes!

I often came across this when people told me. You need to improve your technique for only two months a year, or you don’t need to do exercises in the water, or why learning on land is better than swimming! As I said, every coach has their idea to achieve the goal !

When the coach sets the task of teaching the athlete how to do crawl kicks correctly during training, some athletes need years of training to remember the correct leg movement, and someone can understand in one month and repeat it accurately.

But as we all know, children grow up, and what does this mean that the movements that they have learned to do much change and they performed incorrectly. Still, with constant technique adjustment during training, the correct execution will be maintained, leading to a stable technique in the future!

How to choose a pool of 25 or 50? 25 pool is better for practicing short distances of 10X25 or 20x50, Starts, Turns, Finish Breakout water, and working on your workout plan, 50 pool is better for long-distance 20x100 swimmers exercises. Short distance pool is better for development athletes until 16+ years. How show USA most of the pool 25 yards!

Why is this happening?

Because when a child grows up, the muscles, tendons, and feelings change and become weaker, which makes it impossible to adapt instantly, especially when the coach gives work and sits on the starting board and watches the phone, and the child does not memorise the movements correctly, which will be difficult in the future change!

That’s why changing the technique of an athlete should take place during training using the aerobic zone All technique changes occur at controlled aerobic speeds of the athlete’s movements. Sprint is uncontrolled movement.

Individual training can be carried out by a coach who coaches you every training session, as he will further consolidate the correct execution during training, but if there is a need to explain to the athlete the mistakes that he cannot correct during training.

Speed is numbers, and technique is a skill. When you take additional lessons in mathematics from a teacher, then 2 + 2 = 4, and everyone will teach the same way. Then if you take individual training from a coach, each of us has a personal approach and vision of the swimming technique of each swimmer, and when the swimmer returns to exercise and the coach will notice that the swimmer has changed the technique that he not like, then history is silent about the consequences. Therefore, the best way is when you have camps in the club, they allow all coaches and athletes to understand what the head coach wants from his teams of coaches and athletes.
